BIG (Bay Area Interactive Group) is a non-profit professional association dedicated to championing innovation in digital marketing to brand marketers, publishers and agencies through educational, networking, and association events.
Hello BIG community!
Three short months ago we were quietly contemplating BIG's 2008 strategic initiatives, events calendar and committee chairs. As we all know, there is nothing quiet about the advertising business - especially the digital ad business.
So in the three short months since we kicked off 2008, BIG has co-sponsored the Diversity Jobs Fair, presented "The Talent Divide" - a panel discussion on the challenges of recruiting and retaining talent in the current digital market, hosted the 2nd annual National Interactive Marketing Associations meeting (11 top IMA's were represented) and welcomed 700 sponsors, members, and visitors to socialize BIG style at 111 Minna during AdTech.
But behind the scenes, we continue to work on our strategic initiatives and strengthen key committees to ensure BIG will be a thought leader among the national IMA’s, continue to provide high value content to our broad constituency and deliver flawless events that educate and entertain.
This month we want to profile our Content Committee co-chaired by Mike Parker (Goodby, Silverstein & Partners) and Scott Spaulding (Valueclick Media) with committee members Daphne Liska (eBay) and Brendan Foley (WAMU). They have been tasked with creating an annual editorial calendar that is timely and provocative, and then recruit top industry speakers to discuss these topics for our members.
The editorial calendar and corresponding events information will be published to the SFBIG.com site in the coming weeks. This will assist our membership in planning their attendance and invite clients and guests to upcoming events.
With content in mind, BIG's next breakfast panel plans to ask the question:
"Will new technologies make media planners obsolete in 10 years?"
With widespread acknowledgment that the media planning process (both traditional and digital) can be more efficient, myriad companies are focusing their efforts on automating the job or at least parts of it...but will new technologies really help, or even take over the job completely? What import does the human element really play?
We'll explore some of these technological advances and hear from people who are at the forefront in shaping this (new?) paradigm.

As you can see from the Content Committee members, BIG is truly a cross section of our industry – and we always need additional minds and bodies to keep our organization growing and vibrant. If you are interested in getting involved, please send an email to: volunteers@sfbig.com.
In addition to BIG's panel discussion on the 29th the following event is taking place in May:
The 13th Annual BAARC Bash | May 9th, 2008
