The SFBIG Student Outreach program is about teaching young adults to think more critically when consuming advertising. These students learn about what goes into the making of an advertisement and how the ads are tailored for online, TV, print, or outdoor. The curriculum was developed especially for the SFBIG program by current and former teachers and focuses on the strategies behind advertising. Students come away with a greater sense of understand of the industry as well as an appreciation for the advertising process.
As part of the 2-day curriculum there is the SFBIG Ad Challenge. This contest enables students to learn first-hand how to create effective advertising. The winning team members are awarded iPod shuffles for the best ads. The Outreach program is in its second semester and has reached over 150 students.
